Main Draw to Start Monday, Day 2 Complete
The main draw of the 2007 JSM Challenger will
begin on Monday, November 12 following the final qualifying
matches. Highlighting the day's matches will be Ryler DeHeart
(pictured) who takes on Ilia Bozoljac. Also, Donand Young
will make his debut in Champaign-Urbana when he takes on Harel
Levy. Former NCAA Doubles Champions Kevin Anderson and Ryan
Rowe will be taking on Alex Kuznetsov and Scott Oudsema. Main
draw matches will begin not before 1:30 pm.
Eight players moved into the qualifying round
on Day 2 of the JSM Challenger. Six of the seven remaining
seeds advanced as Brian Baker recorded the only upset of the
day over Marcus Sarstrand of Sweden in straight sets. Baker
is playing solid tennis as he continues his comeback from
injury. The two current Illinois players who competed in singles,
Ruben Gonzales and Abe Souza, both fell in straight sets.
Gonzales was defeated in a close match by Phillip Simmonds
while Souza was bested by young American, Michael McClune.
Singles qualifying will conclude on Monday with matches beginning
at 10:00 am.
Doubles qualifying also began with Gonzales
teaming with fellow Illinois Senior, Brandon Davis. Unfortunately
they fell to Brian and Dann Battistone, 6-4, 7-5. The Battistone
brothers will take on Brian Baker and Phillip Simmonds for
a place in the main draw on Monday.
