JSM Challenger in Full Swing

Main draw play has begun at the Atkins Tennis Center. Day 3 featured rising star, Donald Young, and a host of current and former Illini. Young moved onto second round with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Harel Levy. Donald is hoping for a strong showing in Champaign-Urbana to secure a direct acceptance into the 2008 Australian Open in January.

Former Illini, Brian WIlson (pictured), reached the second round at the JSM Challenger for the second time in his career with a straight sets victory over Jesse Witten. Wilson awaits the winner of the Zack Fleishman/Ryan Rowe match to be played on Tuesday. Brian's college doubles partner, Rajeev Ram, captured a first round doubles victory with Bobby Reynolds. The top seeded team is looking to capture another Challenger doubles title together

Kevin Anderson and Ryan Rowe were unable to overcome the team of Alex Kuznetsov and Scott Oudsema. The wild card entries were defeated 6-3, 6-4. Ryler DeHeart took the courts at the Atkins Tennis Center for the first time as a professional and battled Ilia Bozoljac. Ryler began the match on the right foot, going up an early break. However, Bozoljac quickly broke back and controlled the remainder of the match for a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

The day began with the conclusion of qualifying matches. Nikita Kryvonos, Izak van der Merwe, Phillip Simmonds, and Luka Gregorc earned births into the main draw. In doubles Brian Baker and Phillip Simmonds downed the Battistone brothers to earn the sole doubles qualifying position. Click here to view the completed qualifying draw.
