Day Full of Upsets at JSM Challenger

MainThe JSM Challenger saw three seeds fall on Day 4. Wild card entry, Ryan Rowe (pictured), provided the biggest surprise as he defeated the No. 6 seed and 2006 runner-up, Zack Fleishman. The win makes Rowe the second current Illini player to capture a main draw singles victory in Champaign-Urbana, the other being Kevin Anderson. Other upsets include Jesse Levine downing Sam Warburg and Scoville Jenkins topping Bobby Reynolds.

One player who avoided the upset is defending champion, Amer Delic. The No. 1 seed needed three sets to get by qualifier, Luka Gregorc. The win is Amer's first match win in seven tries. He'll face another qualifier, Izak van der Merwe, who took out Alex Kuznetsov in a three set match with three tie-breakers in round two.

In another marquee match-up, Rajeev Ram deafeated Kevin Anderson in straight sets. After the match, Ram said "My biggest goal out here right now is not to lose a match because of a lack of belief in my game, but I served great today. I got a couple of key points in the breaker and a couple of key points to break him in the second set, and that was it." Rajeev faces No. 3 seed Donald Young in the second round.

Matches begin at 12:00 pm at the Atkins Tennis Center. The order of play is posted above. Results will be updated throughout play. General admission on Wednesday, November 14 is free.
