Tournament Charity

Located in Urbana, IL on Carle Clinic's main campus, the Mills Breast Cancer Institute is dedicated to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of breast cancer through collaborative research and treatments. Upon its completion, the vision of the Mills Institute is to be a national leader in patient care and breast cancer research while advancing scientific knowledge as we seek new treatments and a cure. Currently under construction, the state of the art facility is on pace for completion in April, 2008 and will then open to patients.

The JSM Challenger of Champaign-Urbana has assisted in the fight against cancer since 2003. After supporting the American Cancer Society for 3 years, the tournament felt it was important to support an organization based in the Champaign-Urbana community. It is also fitting as the Mills family have been very generouts supporters of the University of Illinois and its athletic programs. Last year was the first year the JSM Challenger contributed to the Mills Breast Cancer Institute and tournament organizers are looking forward to supporting breast cancer research through the Mills Institute for years to come.

2008 Tenni-thon

Now in its fourth year, the JSM Challenger of Champaign-Urbana Tenni-thon was developed to give children a chance to play tennis for a great cause. Each year, children of all ages receive pledges from family and friends that are then donated to the tournament's official charity, the Mills Breast Cancer Institute. Children are then able to earn prizes such as a Prince tennis racquet or an outfit from Nike based on the amount of money they raise. Last year, the Tenni-thon raised $2,000 for the Mills Breast Cancer Institute. This year, tournament organizers are hoping to raise more.

The 2008 Tenni-thon will take place on Saturday, November 1 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Atkins Tennis Center. Breast Cancer Awareness Day
